WiCOM, the 13th International Conference on Wireless Communications, Networking and Mobile Computing (WiCOM 2017) , is an annual conference in China since 2005. This conference was held in Wuhan, Shanghai, Dalian, Beijing, and Chengdu from 2005 to 2016. Each year there are 100 - 500 attendees from Asia, Europe, America, etc., and there have been quite a lot of well known experts giving plenary speeches. In 2017, WiCOM will be held in Guilin, China from August 21-23. You are invited to submit papers in all areas of wireless communications, networking, mobile computing and applications.

IBM scientists used a special iniLabs DVS128 event camera modeled after the mammalian retina with a TrueNorth processor running a neural network they trained to recognize 10 different hand and arm gestures. Unlike a conventional camera and chip like the one in your phone, the system is event-based, meaning it only reacts if there’s a change in what it’s seeing. This enables the system to run with much less power -- under 200 mW. This model could enable AI applications efficient enough to be powered off the battery in a smartphone or a self-driving car, for example. The team is also making the data they used to train their neural network available for download – one of the first event-based datasets provided to the field. The TrueNorth developer community can use the dataset to train their networks to recognize these 10 gestures. The wider community of event-based vision researchers can also use the dataset to benchmark other algorithms and hardware.
